1. Colin (11) and Martin (15) Clemence: both caned. Colin given six on the seat of his trousers. Martin six on his boxer shorts. Neither boy really troublesome though Martin was an occasional gang member. Both took their beatings bravely.
2. Luke Pratt (11), Steve Pratt (14), Paul England (11): Joe Pratt was one of the original members of the dads' group and a strong advocate of corporal punishment. Steve, the oldest boy, was already a bit of a tearaway and Luke could easily go the same way. Paul, his friend, was an habitual truant from school and completely beyond his mother's control. Joe made all three boys strip naked and then caned them: Luke- 4 strokes, Paul - 4 strokes, Steve - 6.
3. Paul Smith (11), Craig Smith (15): Dave Smith, their father, had been a jockey as a teenager. He still had a riding crop in the top of his wardrobe. Both boys given 6 of the crop through their trousers. Craig's whipping was a good deal harder than Paul's. Both took it bravely.
4. Jack and Philip Dornan (12): the terrible twins. Ian Dornan, their father, made them strip off and wait in their bedrooms, bending over a bed. He used a massive plimsoll and whacked them together, whack and whack about , 6 each, which made both of them yell.
5. Wayne Spraxton (12), Andrew Watson (15): Wayne's mum was living with Andy's dad. Pete Watson used a cane and gave Andrew 8 strokes on just his pants, which he took bravely since it wasn't given very severely. Wayne was more of a problem and deserved a harder beating. At first he refused to co-operate, but when he was threatened with John Hawthorne, he dropped his trousers and bent over the end of his bed. Pete caned him hard – 8 strokes.
6. Martin Copper (13), Nick Davis (14): Nick's mum lived on her own with her two children. Nick had been placed with his best friend Martin. Both were part of the gang who had stolen booze from the pub, though they hadn't actually done the breaking in. Martin's dad gave both boys 6 of the best with a cane across their trousers. It hurt a lot, but they knew that it was just a taster; they had a lot more than that to come.
7. Christopher Cook (13): not really a naughty boy, but his dad strongly believed in the action being taken so gave him 10 with a leather slipper on his bare bottom.
8. Craig Davidstow (13): one of the ring-leaders of the booze-stealing gang. He refused point blank to co-operate with the caning his step-father, Darren Sayer, had planned for him. Darren was a big beefy guy and could have overpowered him, but chose instead to leave him to be dealt with at a future meeting.
9. Matthew Grey (13): a beefy lad, one of the few who played rugby rather than football. His dad was also a massive man. He thought that humiliation was more important than actually hurting Matthew. In front of his three little brothers he made the boy strip naked, then put him across his knee like a little boy and spanked him with the flat of his hand till he was howling. Then he did it to each of the younger boys in turn.
10. Simon Partridge (13), Daniel Knight (16): Steve Knight had married Simon's mum and now had both boys to deal with. He worked as a mechanic and had been looking round at work for something to use on them. He had the idea of cutting the shape of a shoe's sole out of an old tyre. It had turned out bigger than a shoe, but the rubber was heavy with the reinforcing and stiff. He and his mate at work had tried it on each other and he was sure it would do a good job. Neither boy was an angel: Dan had been brought home drunk a few times and Simon was going the same way. He made them change into pyjamas and lie face down over a couple of pillows. He gave Simon 9 and Dan a full 12. The home-made paddle did a good job. Both of them, he reckoned, had a good deal more to come.
11. Anthony Pattinson (14): Archie Pattinson gave his son six with a cane on his naked bottom. Anthony wasn't a bad boy at all, but his dad wasn't going to let him get away with anything. In fact, this was the only beating he had to give the boy, and he was glad that he had been severe from the start.
12. Steve Schofield (14): Steve and his dad lived alone. Steve was often out with the gang round the garages and was also giving Nick Davies' sister a regular seeing to. Dan Smith used a thick leather belt and kept on leathering the boy till he yelled.
13. Martin Scudder (14), Luke Mortimer (12): Luke had already had a dose of the strap, but it was clear that he needed a good deal more attention than that. Martin also needed a pretty sharp thrashing also, so Bill made both of them strip off up in Martin's bedroom and then used the cane on both of them, turn and turn about until they had both had eight strokes. This left Lukes bottom very badly bruised.
14. Gary Fordson (15): not a leading figure in the gang, but involved enough for his father to be worried. George Fordson made the boy touch his toes and then applied a massive gymshoe about ten times. It was enough to make Gary yell, but George was adamant that future whackings would be worse, once definite problems came to be dealt with.
15. David King (15): Malcolm King was mad keen on cricket. To beat David with he found the little bat he'd bought him for his sixth birthday. Nearly two feet long and four inches wide in the blade it made an ideal weapon for tanning his backside. After a dozen whacks with it on his naked bottom, David was yelling and jumping up and down. Not really a member of the gang, so this was likely to be his only beating.
16. Paul Green (16): Andy Green made his son touch his toes and gave him six good cracks with a cane across the seat of his trousers - a good deal less than he actually deserved.
17. Michael Hicks (16), Andrew Laing (16): Two good friends. Michael had been regularly beaten with a bamboo until eighteen months ago, and Andy had also been whacked by Mike's father a couple of times when they were much younger and got into trouble together. Walter Hicks and Geoff Lane worked together. Neither they the boys were sorry that the treatment needed to be resumed. Both got a dozen across the seat of their underpants.
